- Create a new file by selecting File...New from
the menu or by clicking the "New" button on the toolbar.
- Click on a month background to set the graphics
for that month. You will see the following dialog appear:
-
There are three graphics to set for each month: The
Title graphic shows the month name, the Day Bar shows the days of the
week, and the Background is the actual background of the month.
You will need to set all three graphics before you can leave this
dialog. The dimensions of the graphics and more details on them is
found in the tutorial "Creating
Skins" tutorial.
-
If you name your Title, DayBar and Background graphics
in a manner that is discernable to the program, it will interpolate the
names of the graphics for the rest of the months. For example, if
you select "BG02.GIF" for the background of February, the
program will attempt to find and set "BG03.GIF" for March,
"BG04.GIF" for April, etc. These values will only be
auto-filled if they are empty.
-
Once the month graphics are set, your window should look
something like this:
-
Now it's time to add some events to the calendar.
Click on the "+" icon in the day you want to add the
appointment to. You will be shown the "Add Category"
dialog, because we have not defined any categories yet (each event must
be in a category). Create a new category named "Church"
and hit OK. You will then be able to add the actual event.
The dialog looks like this:

-
Set the description to "Senior Picnic" and set
the icon to any graphic file you want (or save this graphic:
by right clicking on it and selecting "Save As..." from the
pop-up menu).
-
You should now see icon for the new calendar event on
the day you clicked on. Your calendar might now look like this:
-
(Note that if you hover over the icon, you will see the
event details) Click on the event icon to edit or delete it.
-
You can create as many categories as you want by pulling
down the category drop list and selecting "New Category" from
the drop list. This will allow your users to filter events that
they do not want to appear on their VOCalendar display.
-
When you are satisfied with your calendar, select
"File...Save" to save it. An XML file will be created
with your calendar's contents in it, and any graphics referenced in the
calendar will be copied to the same directory you save into.
-
To upload the calendar to the Internet, copy the XML
file and all supporting graphics files from the save directory to your
Internet server directory. You can now connect to this calendar
from VOCalendar by entering the URL of the XML file.
