Summary
This tutorial covers how you can customize your device to fit your needs.
Requirements
Pocket PC 2000 or Pocket PC 2002 device
So, you've
got a new Pocket PC and you've either never had a PDA before or you've
upgraded from a Palm and don't know where to start, right? One of
the very first things you should do is start setting up the "P"
in "PDA" (Personal Data Assistant). This tutorial will
show you how to start making your PDA unique to you.
The
VERY first thing to do is set your Owner Name. This will not only
identify you as the owner of the device in case someone else finds it, the
Owner Name is also used by several software programs to verify that the
software is only being used by authorized users.
From the Start menu, select "Start...
Settings... Owner Information"
Enter your information on the next
screen. Make sure there are no spaces after the Owner Name and
E-Mail fields, since these are the fields most often used by
applications to verify licensing.
If you'd like the owner information to be
displayed each time the device is turned on, check the checkbox below
the information.
Now, let's make some modifications to the
"Today" screen. This is the screen you will see when you
turn the device on, and gives you a snapshot of calendar events and tasks
for the day.
On Pocket PC 2002 devices, you can set the
"theme" of the background and colors:
From the Start menu, select "Start...
Settings... Today"
Choose a theme from the list, and you can
optionally set a GIF, JPG or BMP picture as a background, which will
override any background in the theme. New themes can be
downloaded from MobileViews.com
and you can create your own themes with BVRP's Pocket
Theme Manager.
If you don't have a Pocket PC 2002 device, you can
still use the themes by running Pocket
Facelift.
